The Independent Investigations Group (IIG) of Hollywood had a special guest Saturday March 19th with a Mark V Hubbard E-Meter to demonstrate how it “works”.

The IIG meets at the Center for Inquiry on Hollywood Blvd and Berendo. Big Blue (a nick name for scientology’s PAC Base and Los Angeles Org)  is a block south at the corner of what used to be Sunset and Berendo…until scientolgy had their section of Berendo renamed to L. Ron Hubbard Way in late 1996. This is the same year the Center for Inquiry opened their building on Berendo!
What a coincidence.

This is just to show that the Center for Inquiry has been near the cult for many years, has made offers to test for OT abilities or have speakers from scientology visit..all to no avail.
The CoS are really sub-par neighbors. The only times they visit are when we have had ex-scientologists speak at the Center.
Like when Tory spoke there in 2005 and again in 2008. Or when several ex-scientologists had a press conference there in Feb, 2010.

We got a guy from Freedom Magazine (I have yet to see his pics. What a lazy journalist)

We did have sort of a picket.  Kind of disappointing actually.

Scientologists should really visit us more often, We are only about a 10 minute walk away.

So anyways, back to the demo.
I didn’t know ahead of time about the demo so didn’t have time to invite anyone, but the presenter Justin knew his stuff. He is not a critic per se, just saw an e-meter for sale cheap on ebay, and became obsessed about learning all he could about them. Just about any additional info I wanted to give about the e-meter or auditing he already knew, including the FDA warning that is supposed to appear on all current e-meters.

He got the e-meter for $99 because the power cord was gone, but he was able to replace the included batteries with ones he could recharge in the device.
He cleaned it up, researched the history (including the device this was based on, the Mathison electro-meter)…and saw how easy it was to manipulate the needle movement.

Justin made his own manual for the Mark V, so house guests can have a go.
We only had a chance to play with it a little, but I am hoping to have more fun with it in the future. It will make doing a Stress Test more interesting in the future.
Here are a few pics:

On Dia de los Muertos?  Seriously?

I was on Olvera Street for 2 reasons today: To have a late lunch with a friend at Philippe’s (Birth place of the French Dip Sandwich) near Union Station in Los Angeles, and check out Olvera Street on Dia de los Muertos (Nov 1)

So I used the Metro (In LA!) and began to walk in the tunnel from the Metro trains to the main entrance of Union Station, where I was meeting my friend who came on a different train.  While going through the tunnel, I noticed 3 small clumps of people in the tunnel handing out literature for Meg Whitman (R Running for California Governor) and Carly Fiorina (R Running for California State Senator).

I had noticed a sign saying no trespassing, loitering or soliciting on both ends of the tunnel…a busy walkway.

So I took a few pics.  I did not engage them or say anything…just documenting the ONLY people in the tunnel not actually using it for its intended purpose.

I arrived at the entrance and noticed the people that had been passing out literature began to leave the tunnel and were behind me.

They were not following me per se, but I think being photographed woke them up to the fact that maybe this wasn’t a good idea.  I met my friend and pointed to the leafleteers as we began leaving the station into the sunlight.  The Whitman fans were close enough behind us that my friend said over her shoulder as we were walking that “there is no soliciting here.”  A male in the group said “what?”  I was planning to ignore them but I had to get my friend’s back, of course and repeated that “There are signs stating that there is no soliciting here.”  The guy came away from his group and approached us while we were still walking and said that “we can’t block his Constitutional rights“, with a slightly raised tone.  I replied that “telling him that there is no ‘soliciting’ was not impinging on his Constitutional rights…and he was soliciting as he was trying to sell his candidates.”  He came closer and began to speak again until another member of his group pulled him back.  We just kept walking out of the station…wondering at how easy it was to rile these guys just by calmly drawing their attention to a sign.

Would I have taken pics if Democrats were doing the same thing?  Probably not.  I won’t lie.  But I would have been irritated if they did the same thing.  The area had a lot foot traffic and the Meg people were in the way.

If it is OK for them to be there, then it is OK for scientologists to have stress tests and LaRouchites to show pics of Obama with a Hitler mustache.  There is plenty of sidewalk space outside of Union Station where it would be appropriate to inform whomever you want.  But they wanted to be where people HAD to walk by them.

Ok, so now we are approaching the entrance to Olvera Street…and we see one last Whitman Fan.  A lone man.  Approaching people and asking them if they spoke Spanish.  He was not very successful passing out his stuff.  My friend wondered why all the anglo Whitman people were in Union Station, and this lone man was handling Olvera Street.   LOL indeed.

Anyways…I just thought it was pretty funny Whitman people were at a largely hispanic area on Dia de los Muertos to support their candidate.  Good luck with that, amigos.

Senator Dodd, who decided to not run again for office…seems to already be helping out whomever his future employers are.

And if you don’t think he had a cushy job lined-up before deciding not to run for the Senate, I have a bridge in Brooklyn you may have an interest in.

http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/…

Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd cast more doubts this afternoon about whether Elizabeth Warren could garner enough votes to head the newly created consumer financial protection bureau, one day after White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs called her “very confirmable.”

“I don’t know, that’s the question, how does he know that?” Dodd said in response to a question from TPMDC on his way in to the Democrats’ weekly policy lunch.

“She’s qualified, no question about that. The question is whether she’s confirmable,” Dodd added.

Some have argued that she be given a recess appointment if a minority of senators block her confirmation. Dodd objects to that idea.

“I think that would be a huge mistake,” Dodd said, in response to a question from TPMDC. “Recess appointments. No, no, no.”

So…the person that should be working hard to GET the votes to confirm Warren, decides to cast doubt on whether she could be confirmed…(Dodd is the Senate Banking Committee Chairman), and poo-poos the idea that she could be a recess appointment.
If he REALLY cared about real protections for Americans when they encounter the banking community, he should be fighting for her.  Since his support seems lukewarm at best, I must conclude Dodd has a different agenda.

I have no proof that Dodd is on the take, but based on his past actions and based on how many politicians act when money and power are waved in their faces….I cannot find it in my heart to assume he is still working hard for us normal folk.  But we are still paying him…paying him to help out Wall Street.  That watered-down bill that was just passed (and would have been watered down EVEN more if Dodd had his way) is just the latest example.

I am a little angry.

So I went to Townhall at UCLA on Friday, August 21, 2009 for Rep Henry Waxman.

The topic was climate change/Cap and Trade, but most people who came seemed to be interested in healthcare reform.  I signed-up for the event on UCLA’s website on August 8th, but was still way down on the wait list even at that time, so didn’t make it in.  But no matter, I knew I would see a lot outside as well.

The people in favor of healthcare reform GREATLY outnumbered those against.  There were 2 pens for protesters outside the event.  One was completely full with people chanting and carrying signs in favor of reform.  Some supported a public option, while others still demanded single payer (which is my desire as well).  But they all wanted change.

The other pen only had a few anti-reform or anti-cap and trade types, and a few pro-reform folks who spilled over from the other pen.  While attitudes differed and cops were present, no one felt they HAD to keep the group separate…and I witnessed people talking to each other rather than just yelling at each other.  I doubt minds were changed, but maybe people saw the opposition as real people and not merely caricatures.

And of course…the cult of Lyndon LaRouche was present.  They seem to me to be the Westboro Baptist Church of politics.  They go where there is media and say the most offensive stuff to get coverage.  And everyone manning their tables were people of color…which I doubt reflects the average make up of the group.  But they offended many people as they planned to do.

Near the end of the “protest” (it wasn’t really a protest…just people gathered to let it be known what they support), I saw 2 different trolls/comedians about.  I found them funny.  Protests need to not be all srs bsns….lulz need to be had as well.
Most seemed to get the joke and played along…others did not.  I know who I would rather hang out with.

Below are some pics and vids to give you a better idea of the event.

Here is a overview of the action outside the townhall:

And here is the comic relief portion of the event.  You will enjoy.:
